Jacky Cheung’s recent mini-concert, Private Corner - being held at the Jockey Auditorium of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University on April 30, 2010, was a remarkably success. Impressed by Jacky’s rich baritone voice and delighted by his enchanting songs with wonderful music, all audience enjoyed the concert very much.
The DPA 4099 series of supercardioid live instrument microphones and 4061 miniature omnidirectional microphone were adopted in the concert for purity pickup of sound from trombone, trumpet, saxophones and piano.
Mike Wong, Cheung’s monitor engineer, said that it had been known that the microphones had set a new standard of living instrument close miking – they provided excellent focus on the instrument as well as isolation and rejection from adjacent musicians. “You see in this concert, the capturing is utmost in natural and uncolored. We admire the musical accuracy of the microphones very much,” he added.
In fact, the 4099 and 4061 are capable of handling extremely high sound pressure levels (142 dB to 152 dB for respective models of the microphone series). This explains why the microphones could ensure world-class finest possible audio reinforcement.
Daniel Kwan, the front-of-house engineer, further pointed out “Besides the superior transparent sound quality, we like DPA microphones by their highly flexible yet stable and elegant lightweight design for a wide variety of mounting and positioning possibilities. For example, the 4099 series has different versions for different musical instrument such as 4099B for bass, 4099C for cello, 4099G for guitar, 4099S for saxophones, 4099T for trumpet and 4099V for violin.”
“The mounting systems of those versions are interchangeable. They are made by soft materials which will never mar or scratch the finish of the instrument. Their integrated gooseneck shock-mount windscreen system helps to minimize handling and wind noise.”
“All these, as usual, denote DPA’s uncompromised attitude towards their microphones products and services provided. DMT (the authorized local DPA microphones distributor) has been doing a good job to support us too. We appreciated all these,” Kwan expressed.
