Avid & Optocore used for Hong Kong APA for Lyric Theater mixing upgrade

Seating 1,181, the Lyric Theatre in Hong Kong’s Academy of Performing Arts is a multifunctional hall intended for large-scale dance, drama, and musical and opera performances. As part of their ongoing upgrade process, Hong Kong APA recently installed an Avid Venue D-Show system comprising a 24 +8 +1 D-Show control surface with a FOH rack and a remote stage rack to handle the demanding production environment. Normally, the console is installed on the center line of the theater in a separate control room at the rear of the venue however, the console can also be moved to the rear stalls inside the theater during rehearsals for easier communication and sound design.

In addition to the D-Show system, a smaller Avid Venue SC48 self-contained 16 + 8 + 2 mixer was also supplied for mobile use and will primarily be used for stage monitors.

Finally, an Optocore fully redundant fiber optic routing network was installed throughout the venue as a way of simply routing the console outputs to the main PA amplifiers in various remote locations. Low power and compact, Optocore X6R-FX modules were used at the various locations and connected in a dual ring topology for ultimate redundancy. The use of a fiber optic distribution network provided great flexibility in the location of the cabling and also provides a noise and interference signal path in an environment when there are many lighting control and mains circuits.
