China's First Harrison 32Classic Console & Prism Sound Dual ADA-128 Systems Installed at SSGY Studio

Musicians Wang Chao and Jin Ying established a new technical benchmark for professional recording systems at SSGY Studio by adopting the Harrison 32Classic analog mixing console and Prism Sound Dream ADA-128 audio converter solution provided by DMT, drawing industry-wide attention.

Renowned music producer, composer, and guitarist Wang Chao, alongside veteran recording engineer and live sound engineer Jin Ying, form a golden partnership. Over two decades, they have crafted numerous popular music works with exceptional skill and expertise. When they decided to build SSGY Studio, selecting core equipment—the mixing console and audio interface—became a critical challenge.

After extensively reviewing high-end analog consoles and audio interfaces on the market, they found no product that fully met their stringent professional requirements for "exceptional sound quality, modern technological capabilities, and profound historical resonance." Upon hearing that Harrison was making a strong return to the music console market with the 32Classic, Wang Chao and Jin Ying became excited and immediately visited DMT Experience Center for a listening test.

The Harrison 3232 console has left an indelible mark on music history, with numerous legendary artists creating timeless works through Harrison consoles. Queen and Led Zeppelin recorded multiple hit songs using Harrison consoles, while Michael Jackson’s albums Thriller and Bad were produced by recording maestro Bruce Swedien on Harrison consoles. These classics fully demonstrate Harrison consoles’ extraordinary value in music production.

Meanwhile, the newly launched Prism Sound Dream ADA-128 flagship audio converter from the UK caught their attention. Over its 37-year history, this specialist audio measurement-grade equipment manufacturer—renowned for analytical precision—has developed iconic converters like the AD-2, DA-2, ADA-8XR, and Atlas, widely used in film scores ( e.g., No Time to DieGravity), post-production for The Lord of the Rings series, and countless albums by artists like Pink Floyd, Mark Knopfler, and Adele. After initial research, Wang Chao and Jin Ying were deeply captivated.

They conducted meticulous tests on the Harrison 32Classic’s sound quality using diverse audio sources and vocal types, gaining profound insights into its capabilities. The 32-channel 32Classic faithfully inherits Harrison’s analog console legacy: retaining the groundbreaking In-Line architecture from the classic 3232 console, enabling simultaneous recording and monitoring on the same channel; employing Jensen transformer-coupled microphone preamplifiers to deliver warm, full-bodied tonality; featuring ultra-smooth, musically expressive EQ and legendary wide-bandwidth high/low-pass filters for limitless audio processing possibilities. Its high-performance design—including gold-plated switches and premium components—ensures stable signal transmission, low noise, and outstanding audio quality. Classic elements like analog VU meters further solidify its sonic excellence. Notably, it innovatively integrates Dante converters and 7.1.4 immersive monitoring controls, fully meeting modern Dolby Atmos production needs. Instantly, they knew this was their dream console.

The Prism Sound Dream ADA-128 also impressed Jin Ying. This converter boasts an expansive channel architecture, packing up to 20 expansion card modules in a 2U chassis—supporting over 128 analog channels and 512 digital channels at 192kHz—effortlessly handling Dolby Atmos workflows. Four independent clock sources accommodate multiple systems at different sample rates. User-friendly modular design, channel-level routing, and web-based remote monitoring via computers/tablets proved highly practical.

Eighty analog I/O channels across two ADA-128 units connect the console and analog outboard gear. Dual Avid HDX cards interface 128 DigiLink channels with Pro Tools workstations. 128 Dante and 128 MADI channels enable inter-converter communication and stem distribution to personal monitoring systems. 48 AES channels link the entire monitoring system and digital devices, seamlessly integrating the console with analog outboard and stereo/7.1.4 immersive monitors into a formidable audio ecosystem.

As the critical bridge between workstations and peripherals, the ADA-128’s massive dynamic headroom and surgical audio resolution outperform competitors. "It revealed previously inaudible details, precise imaging, and spatial depth — there is no need to worry about analog signal overload causing clipping distortion," Jin Ying praised.

Upon completion of SSGY Studio , they immediately applied this setup to mix the theme song for Tsui Hark’s blockbuster The Legend of the Condor Heroes: The Great, achieving remarkable results. During formal recordings with their signed band, the Harrison 32Classic’s vibrant tonality and Prism Sound’s analytical precision synergized perfectly, delivering premium sound.

Beyond sonic excellence, the console’s ergonomic design earned high praise. Its spacious leather armrest conveniently holds peripherals like keyboards, controllers, and scores, enhancing workflow. The meter bridge’s rear surface accommodates nearfield monitors or displays, creating an efficient, comfortable workspace.

Within months, Wang Chao and Jin Ying developed a profound connection with the Harrison 32Classic, regarding it as an indispensable creative partner. Whether tackling complex mixes or channeling inspiration, the Harrison 32Classic and Prism Sound ADA-128 remain steadfast allies, empowering them to advance steadily in music production and craft more exceptional works.
