RTW Announce TMxCore Metering Suite

 
The RTW TMxCore is built on the legacy of the well-known TouchMonitor TM7/TM9 series, designed to deliver flexibility, processing power, and future-readiness for professional metering environments. With DisplayPort output, Network Display support, high-performance architecture, and full compatibility with RTW’s metering suite, now in a compact, adaptable format.
 
Built for modern and evolving workflows, TMxCore has been designed for installations where performance, integration, and flexibility are key. It supports AI-driven tools such as speech intelligibility metering and immersive audio analysis. Unlike traditional integrated meters with built-in screens, TMxCore is a standalone “box” designed to connect to any external display via DisplayPort or over a local network in any type of network browser.
 
This design provides users with complete freedom to choose screen size, resolution, and placement, whether integrated into a broadcast console, mounted in a machine room, or connected to large wall displays. Without the constraints of a fixed front panel, TMxCore can be installed in tight spaces and be upgraded more flexibly over time.
 
Calrec has become the first OEM partner to integrate TMxCore into its ARGO audio mixing console. By embedding TMxCore directly into ARGO, Calrec provides its users with RTW’s loudness and metering technology as a part of the workflow.

Stereo, Surround, Immersive

With support for up to 32 audio channels, TMxCore can handle channel configurations from stereo to 22.2. Among the many supported formats, you will find 5.1 and 7.1 surround as well as 7.1.4 and 9.1.6 immersive.
 


Immersive Measuring

The analysis of surround and immersive audio requires tools that not only measure but also visualise spatial relationships in a way that reflects what we actually hear.
 
RTW’s suite of immersive metering instruments is designed to bring this capability to life, giving sound engineers insight into the spatial balance, phase relationships, and overall integrity of their mixes.
 
They are available as a license option.
 
 
 
Immersive Sound Analyser
 
The Immersive Sound Analyser visualises the relationships between channels with up to two layers. It supports channel formats for both surround (e.g., 5.1) and immersive audio, such as Atmos 7.1.4.

Its graphical display is designed so that the dynamic behaviour of all elements corresponds to the subjective listening impression, allowing the balance of a surround or immersive program to be monitored intuitively at a glance.

The Dominance Indicator (represented by a white cross) further indicates the position of the subjectively perceived acoustic focal point. With the Immersive Sound Analyser, you can:
 

  • Monitor the overall spatial balance of the surround- or immersive image
  • Measure total loudness within layers
  • Monitor the relationship between the layers
  • Identify phase issues to ensure correct downmixing
  • Evaluate stereo width and perceived position between channel pairs
  • Detect correlation problems in the LFE channel

 

Matrix Correlator
 
The Matrix Correlator displays phase relationships between all channels, supporting formats from stereo up to 22.2.
 
It provides a complete overview of inter-channel correlations, making it easy to detect potential phase issues within a mix.
 
 
 
Multi Correlator

The Multi Correlator is a valuable tool for working with surround or immersive sound, ensuring that a surround mix will also translate correctly when downmixed to stereo or even mono.
 
It provides a clear, single-view display of the phase relationships between all channels.
 
 
Polarscope

Inspired by the classic vectorscope, the Polarscope introduces a new algorithm that visualises inter-channel correlations using a spatially aware coordinate system. Each loudspeaker position is represented as a vector in space, and signal levels are combined to generate real-time geometric shapes on the display.
 
In a traditional stereo vectorscope, identical channel content appears as a vertical line, while polarity inversion creates a horizontal line. The Polarscope extends this principle to surround and immersive layouts, where signal interactions form unique geometric patterns that reveal spatial attributes such as:

  • Dynamic Development of Spatiality (Image width and depth)
  • Front/rear energy balance
  • Channel delay mismatches
  • Phase issues or mirror symmetry


The Polarscope algorithm was presented by our software developer, Pavel Smokotnin, at the 158th AES Convention.



Speech Intelligibility Meter
 

 
The Speech Intelligibility (SI) Meter for TMxCore is designed to help broadcasters and professional audio engineers tackle one of the most challenging stage in production: keeping dialogue clear and intelligible.

 
Developed in close cooperation with Fraunhofer IDMT, the SI Meter utilises advanced AI-based algorithms to provide an objective, real-time measurement of how well speech can be understood in a mixed environment. Instead of relying on subjective impressions, engineers get clear visual feedback that guides them in balancing dialogue, effects, music, and background sounds.
 
This collaboration builds on more than nine years of joint research, beginning with the SI4B (Speech Intelligibility for Broadcasting) project, and has since evolved into a robust solution now available within RTW’s TMxCore platform.

Loudness Tools for Full Compliance
 
TMxCore supports all international loudness standards, including EBU R128, ITU-R BS.1770-4/1771-1, ATSC A/85, ARIB, OP-59, AGCOM, CALM, LEQ(M), TASA, and SAWA.
 
On top of the ITU/EBU loudness standards, you’ll find support for Dialog Gated Loudness Measurement, enabling compliance with dialogue-based specifications, which are aligned with Netflix delivery standards.



Chart
 

 
The Chart has been designed to provide a clear visual timeline of loudness and speech intelligibility, making it easier to monitor dynamics and consistency in broadcast, streaming, or post-production.
 

  • It can display Momentary, Short-Term, Integrated, and True-Peak Loudness, as well as Speech Intelligibility over time, giving insight into both transient details and long-term trends.
  • With a flexible time range from 10 seconds to 2 hours, auto-scaling, and customizable appearance, the Chart adapts to any workflow. It can also synchronise with other meters for a complete overview.
  • The Loudness Summation instrument provides a bargraph display of summed loudness values — M, S, and/or I. It can also present dialog-gated measurements: Momentary Dialog-gated (MD), Short-term Dialog-gated (SD), and Integrated Dialog-gated (ID).
  • The Numeric instrument provides a readout of selected loudness and dialogue measurement parameters in a numerical display. A large range of parameters can be displayed, although it is not expected that all parameters will be used simultaneously.
  • The LRA (Loudness Range) instrument displays a graphical representation of the loudness variances within short time periods. These are measured against the Loudness Range (LRA) descriptor specified in EBU R 128. It is used to indicate whether a program has a consistently constant loudness or a high variation between low and high-level components. It allows for making assumptions about whether the program requires dynamic processing concerning the intended distribution path.

 


Dialog Gated Loudness Measurement
 

 
The RTW metering engine supports dialog-gated measurements, ensuring compliance with dialog-based specifications that, for example, adhere to Netflix delivery standards.
 

  • The Numerical instrument provides metrics such as ID (Dialog-Based Integrated), SD (Dialog-Based Short-Time), and D (Dialog Content Percentage).
  • The LRA instrument displays the Dialog-Gated Loudness Range, while the Dialog Detector identifies when dialog is present. This detector can be resized, ranging from a small overlay to covering the entire screen.
  • Users can specify which channels contain dialog, typically assigning it to the Left, Centre, and Right channels.

 

 
LFE Bleed
 
The LFE Bleed Instrument measures energy above a certain frequency (120 Hz by default) and displays a momentary loudness value on a dBFS scale in a compact bargraph. The bar appears in red by default, indicating that the expected state is absolute silence. Any visible activity signifies unwanted content leaking into the LFE channel.
 
It is essential to ensure that no high-frequency content is present in the LFE channel, as this can cause severe playback issues with certain encoders, including binaural formats.

As a general recommendation, the LFE frequency range should be limited to avoid problems during distribution.

 
 
Ratio Instrument
 
The Ratio Instrument displays the difference, or ratio, between two loudness measurements.
 
It is particularly useful for monitoring ratios within one audio source:

  • Loudness-to-Dialog Ratio (LDR)
  • Background-to-Dialog Ratio (BDR)

Or between two different sources:

  • Compare the loudness before and after processing
  • Compare the loudness of different rendered layouts (immersive vs stereo, mono downmix, etc.)

 
All in all, the Ratio Instrument offers a way to evaluate balance, consistency, and the impact of processing across a wide range of production scenarios.

 
 
PPM
 
TMxCore features a fully equipped PPM meter, ensuring reliable measurement across any audio channel.It supports a broad selection of scales, covering all the requirements of a professional production environment, a crucial advantage, as broadcasters often rely on very specific scale types.

A switchable peak-hold indicator, peak memory, and over indicator further enhance its functionality. For stereo applications, a built-in correlation indicator between the bargraphs helps identify potential phase and correlation issues.

 
 
Moving Coil Emulation
 
The Moving Coil instrument is available in 2-channel stereo mode. It provides several scales and setting options. The PPM (British) or VU displays can be shown as single or combined, either vertically or horizontally. Loudness scales or a combined PPM and Loudness display (BBC mode) are also available.

 
 
Stereo Correlator

The Stereo Correlator visualises the phase relationship between the two channels of a stereo signal, providing quick insight into stereo compatibility. Essential in mixing, mastering, and broadcasting, the Correlator helps engineers maintain consistent sound quality and ensure reliable mono compatibility.

 
 
Vectorscope
 
The 2-Channel Audio Vectorscope utilises a Lissajous display to visualise the phase relationship between two stereo channels in real-time. It quickly reveals stereo width, balance, and phase issues such as shifts, rotations, or cancellations.

Widely used in mixing, mastering, and broadcasting, the Vectorscope is an essential tool for ensuring proper stereo imaging, phase alignment, and mono compatibility.
 


Real Time Analyser

Visualise the energy distribution of your audio with precision and clarity. The RTA works with any speaker format using the Real-Time Analyser and offers flexible octave resolutions, customizable layouts, and enhanced colour visualisation.
 
With zoomable low-frequency analysis, high-band display, and multiple filter options, it’s the ideal tool for accurate monitoring in music, broadcast, and post-production.

 
 
Clock

The Clock Instrument integrates reliable timekeeping into your metering setup, featuring a broadcaster-friendly design.

It supports multiple time zones, making it easy to reference both local and remote production times within the same workflow.

Network Display

 

 
With Network Display, engineers, mixers, and operators can view real-time audio measurements anywhere on the local network using a standard web browser - without the need for extra hardware.
 
Whether monitoring from the control room, a production suite, or across multiple workstations, Network Display provides unmatched flexibility and helps streamline workflows.
 
You can expand the Network Display feature by adding additional screens with additional licenses. Each additional screen effectively acts as a new metering instance in your setup, requiring an additional license.

 
 
Delay Compensation

With the introduction of dialog-gated loudness measurement, some instruments may introduce significant delay - up to 2 seconds in certain cases. RTW’s metering engine includes built-in delay compensation, and in addition, all metering instruments provide audio outputs.

As a network device, the TMxCore is configured via the network using a standard web browser.
 
This interface allows you to adjust overall settings, manage presets, and more. Additionally, you can control access to the device, restricting specific features to prevent accidental use during live performances.
